Si-Woo Kim leaped from 75th to 28th in the latest Official World Golf Rankings after his dramatic victory at The Players Championship last weekend.
The leap makes Kim the highest-ranked Asian player in the world, surpassing fellow Koreans Jeunghun Wang and Byeong Hun An, along with Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.
Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama is ranked higher at third, but is also playing as a US citizen. Matsuyama climbed a spot from fourth, supplanting Jason Day this week. Also moving up a spot was Masters champion Sergio Garcia, pushing former No. 1 Jordan Spieth down to sixth overall.
Also moving up in the Top 10 as Australia’s Adam Scott, who rose from 11th to 9th with his strong showing at The Players Championship. With that move, there are currently five players who have been ranked No. 1 in the world ranked in the top 10, including Dustin Johnson, who ran his streak of weeks at the top to 13.
Johnson is already 15th on the all-time list of weeks at No. 1, and will surpass both David Duvall and Fred Couples in a month’s time. He’s still a wee bit short of Tiger Woods’ all-time record of 683 weeks at No. 1, but if he stays hot, he can tie Woods in just 670 weeks – sometime in March of 2030.
