US Clinches First Ryder Cup Since 2008

The US Ryder Cup team shook off ghosts of collapses past, winning seven of the 12 singles matches on Sunday to take a 17-11 victory over their European contemporaries at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

The US clinched the title when Ryan Moore, the final pick for the team, defeated Lee Westwood 1 up with an eagle on No. 17 and a birdie on No. 18.

The highlight of the day was Rory McIlroy’s clash with Patrick Reed in the first singles match. The eighth hole saw McIlroy deliver from 65 feet out on a birdie putt, then act like the heel on an episode of WWE Raw exhorting the crowd with his hand cupped to his ear yelling “I can’t hear you!”

On cue, Reed delivered a 25-foot putt of his own to square the match after eight holes. He put his trademark finger to his lips and pointed at McIlroy. The two amicably bumped fists before continuing on, but McIlroy’s bravado cooled down the stretch.

Here are the full results from Sunday’s singles matches.
