Brooks Koepka Takes US Open Title

Sunday morning, Bob Koepka talked to his son on the phone; the kind of things most dads did with their sons on Father’s Day in America.

Except this father had a special request for his Brooks: “Do me a favor. I need a trophy for Father’s Day. Do me a favor and bring one back back.”

Brooks Koepka took that request to heart. His 5-under 67 saw him run away with his first Major title down the stretch, finishing 16-under to tie Rory McIlroy for the lowest score in tournament history.

Koepka left little doubt of what he would do on Sunday, opening his round with back-to-back bogeys. Day 3 leader Brian Harman was great, shooting another 67, but he couldn’t withstand Koepka’s onslaught.

Justin Thomas was the biggest disappointment on Sunday. He followed up his course record 63 with a closing 75 to wind up tied for ninth. Patrick Reed also fell off the pace under pressure closing with a 74 after shooting a 65 on Saturday.
