Native Son Burmester Takes Tshwane Open

South Africa’s Dean Burmester shot a second straight 65 on Sunday to win the Tshawne Open on Sunday, finishing 18-under for the tournament.

He finished three strokes ahead of Finland’s Mikko Korhonen and Spain’s Jorge Campillo, who each finished 15-under.

Burmester simply couldn’t be caught the last two days as he shot consecutive 65s. No player matched that total on the last two days, although the US’ Peter Uihlein fired a 65-66 to finish in fourth place at 14-under.

The South African looked like he might be making a run at a sub-60 score in the final round Sunday, birdying 7 of his first 10 holes. He bogeyed 13, but made two more birdies to sit at 8-under through 14. Thoughts of a 59 evaporated as he bogeyed 16 and 17.

He was dominant on the front nine throughout the tournament, 15-under on those holes over four days.
